Jakarta Film Week 2025: Five Years of Reigniting Cinema Energy
Jakarta Film Week 2025 held its press conference on September 30 at CGV FX Sudirman, marking a milestone: five years of nurturing young filmmakers and building bridges with the global industry. This year’s theme, REIGNITE, captures the festival’s mission to spark conversations, renew passion, and energize Indonesia’s growing film ecosystem.
Festival director Rina Damayanti stressed the importance of spotlighting new voices and perspectives: “Jakarta Film Week is committed to fueling creativity through young talents and offering opportunities to shine on the global stage.”
Growing Into the Global Spotlight
Since its debut in 2021, Jakarta Film Week has grown rapidly—films in the lineup have increased by over 50%, while audiences, both online and offline, surged to 170,000 in 2024. The JFWNET–Industry Program, introduced in 2023, has expanded the festival’s scope by hosting producers’ labs, pitching forums, and masterclasses that foster collaboration between Indonesian and international filmmakers.
In 2025, the festival strengthens Jakarta’s role as a City of Cinema, a vision the local government is working to achieve by 2027. Vice Governor Rano Karno emphasized that Jakarta Film Week provides not just screenings, but also cultural momentum: a space where audiences, artists, and industry players converge.
Highlights of Jakarta Film Week 2025
The festival opens with The Fox King (Woo Ming Jin, 2025), a Malaysia–Indonesia co-production starring Dian Sastrowardoyo, fresh from its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The closing film will be Dopamine (Teddy Soeria Atmadja, 2025), featuring Shenina Cinnamon and Angga Yunanda.
Competition categories return with Global Feature, Global Short, Global Animation, Direction Award, and the Jakarta Film Fund—which this year supports three short films by new Jakarta directors: Amelia, Amelia, Duka Cita, and Salon Gue Aje. Outside competition, curated programs like Emergency Broadcast, Herstory, Fantasea, and Classique explore themes ranging from contemporary issues to archival gems.
Audiences can also look forward to collaborations with Made in Hong Kong, Postcards from Clermont-Ferrand ISFF, Dutch Bioscoop, and a tribute to Reza Rahadian’s 20-year career. Films from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and for the first time Africa, will bring new perspectives to Jakarta screens.

JFWNET–Industry Program
Backed by the Ministry of Culture’s National Talent Management Cultural Arts Program, JFWNET continues to strengthen Jakarta’s industry presence. Programs like Talents Hub, Producers Lab, and Industry Talks connect emerging filmmakers with mentors and expand opportunities for cross-border collaborations. Masterclasses this year focus on Music Scoring and Directing, while forums tackle international co-production and the future of festivals.
Festival Ambassador: Claresta Taufan
Rising actor Claresta Taufan joins Jakarta Film Week 2025 as Festival Ambassador, fresh from roles in Maryam: Janji dan Jiwa yang Terikat and Reza Rahadian’s directorial debut Pangku. Her enthusiasm highlights how Jakarta Film Week has become a platform not only for established names but also for the next generation.
